So far this weekend has been pretty good to us.

Actually, Friday at work was TERRIBLE for me. Not anything in particular, just in the nature of my job, holidays are added stress to an already stressful job. Let's just say I worked HARD for my Monday off. Hence, the white peach sangria. Yum.... I could have had a LOT more where that came from, just not at $8 a pop.

Today Joey and I, with the help of our friend Roadie, moved all of the boxes we had packed last week into our storage unit. Moving when it's 94 degrees outside is the worst form of torture, so I really am thankful that the boys did all the heavy lifting. While I was moving boxes in the house for them to take to the truck, I came across a box full of Joey's old toys. As I was rummaging through them, I couldn't help but notice how grotesque boys toys are. I mean, me and my sister grew up with Barbies and dollhouses... and sure I had some trolls too, but they had jewels for belly buttons and bright purple hair... not camo pants and missing teeth! Then out of nowhere I found this Snow White figurine that TOTALLY didn't go with the rest of the toys. She was my fave.

We also stopped by Target tonight, which is essentially my crack. Who needs hard drugs when you can have super trendy home decor and reasonably priced dresses?! I picked up my new cell phone case (obsessed over here!!) as well as a pair of capris, a skirt, some tank tops and the dress above. I am going to wear it to our friend's wedding in 2 weeks. It's hard to tell there, but it's a pretty pattern of purples, oranges and pinks. I love it... and it's perfect for work too.

The last picture up there is just of some boxes we found near the dumpster... SCORE FREE BOXES! And my iMac box... this was not found near the dumpster. ha. We have a long week ahead of us with work and packing and more packing and cleaning. Bah. It would be a lot more fun if we were moving into our brand new house, not into my in-laws guest room. Oh well! The time will come.... hopefully sooner than later!

10 Pretty Things I Love for Spring!

The weather has been damn near gorgeous here lately!

You know the saying, "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb"? Okay, maybe I'm showing my age here a little. But that is a phrase and in this case, March came in growling and out positively ROARING! The weather has gotten into the 90's, especially last week. I even think I saw a heat index of 100 degrees or so. But maybe that was just in my car.

The days that have been in the 70's though, those have been the best. I am not ready for 90 degree weather, to be honest, but you work with what you're given. When it's in the 70's or 80's, I am more than happy to welcome Spring into my life.

I have worn the crap out of all the skirts, dresses and sandals that I own. This is problematic because Joey and I are on a spending freeze and I really can't afford to buy anything pretty. See, we are on the search for our first home and those things don't come cheap!!

Instead of just stomaching the fact that it might be late May or June before I get to buy anything to plush my spring/summer wardrobe, and maybe being creative in ways to keep wearing my winter clothes in a summery way, I have taken to Pinterest and found things that I would absolutely love to add to my arsenal. But can't afford. Some I couldn't afford even if I wasn't scrounging for pennies in my couch cushions to add to our piggy bank.

But that's for another day.

1) This pretty red, flowy dress from Old Navy. There is nothing better than an empire waist, knee length dress for work. I could totally pair this with a white cardigan or shrug and some sandals that I already own - easy and adorable.

2) Oh my GOSH! I am so into arrows right now, and naturally since I am a 14 year old girl, this totally symbolizes my love for The Hunger Games. This bracelet is from House of Harlow. I found it in sterling silver and rose gold, and I kind of prefer the rose gold. It's just so striking. I want it!

3) Okay so I'm kind of cheating here. I own this pillow. I found it on the clearance rack at Target. I wish there had been 2, so I guess you could say I still covet one of these magnificent pillows. I don't have a link to source here because it's been taken offline. :( But I promise I got this pillow from Target.

4) I am obsessed with all things wood right now. I have an iPhone cover that is wood, albeit plastic, but I love it. These sunglasses from the Tumbleweeds shop on Etsy. They have woodcrafted sunglasses in all shapes, sizes and colors. I wish, wish, wish that I could afford a pair, and that I didn't have to wear glasses. Hrmph.

5) Speaking of wood things, how adorable is this cutting board? I found this on Pinterest and followed the source back to a shop on Etsy that makes custom wood crafted cutting board in the shape of the states! Of course, I would want a Missouri one with a heart in St. Louis. :) Check out the shop - AHeirloom.

6) I own these shoes too. Shhh. I had a Kohls giftcard left over from Christmas, can you believe it? I managed to buy a dress for Easter and these shoes from the Simply Vera collection. I haven't worn them yet but they are so adorable and I can't wait to put together an outfit with them.

7) These shoes are also from Kohls, but I haven't been gutsy enough to try them on. Mostly because once I put them on, I will want to buy them. This is regardless of how comfortable they are, just because they are so gorgeous. So I am steering clear. Until my willpower shatters. Tomorrow. Shhh.

8) AH! How adorable are these Pantone iPhone cases! I want all of them, but I think the Tangerine and Yellow ones would make me the happiest.

9) I won a Vera Bradley Attache at my work's Trivia night in March and am super excited about it. I mean, technically I have nowhere to need a briefcase but hey - now I have one if the situation arises! To go with it - you know, thinking ahead - I want to get this Turn Lock wallet in the same fabric (Folkloric) as the Attache. Pretty!

10) Finally, what Spring wouldn't be complete without some new baseball gear?! I love this collection from Victoria's Secret, and with Joey being a majorly huge Mets fan, I know I could get him to agree to me getting this hoodie if it was for the Mets. ;) Here's trying!!

Day 12. Inside My Closet

Inside my closet would be unorganized chaos. And a ton of missing clothes... I haven't done laundry in almost 5 days. Ack!

The right side of the picture is actually the back of my bedroom door reflecting in the mirrored closet doors. I have a 3-tiered hanger that I clip my scarves to for easy access. I love how simple it is, and that it's hidden behind my bedroom door so no one ever sees it!

You can also tell I have a thing right now for mustard yellow. I wish I wasn't so pale, so I could make it a focal point in my wardrobe, because I love wearing it. For now, I just have it in accent pieces like the cardigan and scarf seen above.

Clothes for Christmas!

I am really really excited about the dress I found tonight at Kohls. I plan on wearing it on Christmas day when we go to my Dad's house for our extended family gathering. I tried it on tonight with a black belt (totally looks like Santa! ha!), a gray cardigan, black tights and silver shoes. I love how it all came together and it's so totally festive. Yay!

For Christmas eve, I think I am wearing a black floral lace skirt, a red satin shirt and a black cardigan, with black tights and flats. Simple, but refined. Cause I'm sooooooo refined. ;)





So yeah, I am pretty excited for my new finds. All at Kohls, all on sale (of course!)

Slow Cooker Chicken Caesar Sandwiches

I love going out to run errands, knowing dinner is at home cooking itself. That is the magic of slow cookers.

Even though my slow cooker is in need of a.. well, I need to throw it away and get a new one. Mine has seen better days. It's 2 years old, but I don't know the life expectancy of a slow cooker to know if that means it's time to buy a new one. I just know it.. I can feel it in my gut. That and the lid doesn't have a handle and I burn myself every time I try to pry it off. So that blows.

Today Joey and I went to Old Navy to buy our winter coats. It's pretty much been in the 60-70's here lately, so a winter coat hasn't been necessary. But with Thanksgiving being next week, I knew I was tempting fate not having a winter coat that fit.

Old Navy was having a sale on their outerwear.... 75% off! That is HUGE! But that also meant I was battling against every other woman in the metro area because Old Navy's are few and far between out here. I finally snagged one that I adored (after fighting like 5 overzealous moms and their ridiculous strollers for a mirror)... and it was the only one of its kind! I think it was an online return because it didn't have a tag either. Oh well, score for me! :)

I also got some pretty cute gloves.. they weren't on sale, but I am such a glove freak. I hate having my fingers covered. I feel like I have no range of motion when I have gloves on. Even things like locking my door or fumbling in my purse for my chapstick become The Hardest Thing Ever when my fingers are clothed. So these pretty gloves don't have finger holes at all. I love that!

Anyway, while we were out shopping (and saving $150 on outerwear... thank you Old Navy!), we had Chicken Caesar sandwiches cooking in the crock pot. When we came home, all we had to do was shred the chicken, add the fixings and wait another 30 minutes for it to get all hot and gooey. 

Ingredients! Yes, we are cheapos.

Shred that chicken.

 Combine the above mentioned ingredients and chicken into the crockpot.

Make it into a delicious blurry sandwich.

SLOW COOKER CHICKEN CAESAR SANDIWCHES

2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
1 cup Caesar dressing
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley OR 2 teaspoons of dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
lettuce, for topping
buns


1) Place chicken in your slow cooker with 1-2 cups of water, cover and cook on low heat for 4-6 hours.


2) Remove chicken from cooker using a slotted spoon and drain the water from the slow cooker. Place chicken on a cutting board and pull chicken into shreds, discarding any fat.


3) Place chicken back in the cooker and pour dressing, Parmesan cheese, parsley, and pepper over the top. Stir until mixed evenly. Cover and cook on high heat for 30 minutes or until mixture is hot.


4) Spoon 1/4 cup mixture onto your buns. Top with extra shredded Parmesan cheese and lettuce to serve.

6. Seriously, though, tell me what I want for Christmas. This is impossible.

7. We don't have room in our apartment this year for a full sized Christmas tree. It makes me so sad!!! But we are borrowing my families old mini-tree to set on our countertop. It won't be the same, but at least we'll have some Christmas cheer in this tiny old apartment.

8. I spend way too much time on MarthaStewart.com lately. They have awesome organizational tips, fun crafts and mostly tasty looking recipes.

9. I think I am going to make this for the Christmas cards we get this year... I sure hope we get a lot!

We are sending our own out this year. We didn't send any out last year, so these will be our first "married couple" cards! I wanted to get ultra-cheesy and send out over the top photo cards, but we'll wait a little for those. We need a kid or something. Or a gerbil. (because apparently, we aren't dog people.)

New Autumn Clothes!

It's about to get all kinds of materialistic up in here.

1. This sweater is SO soft.. seriously, it's like butter. It comes in a lot of different colors, but I was really drawn to the white and black striped one. I know horizontal stripes aren't the best idea for those of us with... curves... but I just don't care! It's so beautifully soft. I kind of want to put it on my pillow and cuddle with it.

2. I fell in love with this dress due to it being knit and the perfect knee length. I have a really tall torso and really short legs, so I always have a hard time with dresses that are structured like this one. But this dress just.... fits. The belt is fantastic because it helps me cinch my waist, giving me definition.. which is GREAT! And I can use the belt for other dresses since it's not attached. Bonus!

3. I found out that my trusty black flats had holes in the soles when I wore them to work during a torrential downpour. Pair nasty wet flats with tights and you have a disaster on your hands. Welcome to my Wednesday. So I was in need (NEED) of new flats and these totally deliver. They don't have a wicked arch, they are super soft, and were relatively cheap for Famous Footwear. Love!

4. This shirt hasn't completely won me over yet, but so far I think we can be friends. It has a nice shape, but the hem rests at my hips, versus below my hips.. due to that whole long torso thing. It makes me a little uncomfortable because I'm used to buying things that fit longer, but I think if I use it as an undershirt for a sweater (or give up my insecurities) I will love it. Plus, it's aqua. No further explanation is needed.

5. I haven't worn this sweater yet, since it's still like 80 degrees here. Come on! But it's really soft, the red is more coral than a deep red, and the 3/4 length sleeve just makes me excited. I can't wait to pair it with a long sleeve white shirt, or wear it in the office for a punch of the holidays. It just is so precious.

6. These are my first pair of boots....ever! I have been looking all over for the perfect boots, but I've run into some serious problems. First, my calves are big. Second, my legs are SHORT. Third, boots are expensive as hell! I didn't want boots with heels, suede slouchy boots, or booties. It was really difficult. Just ask Joey... we spent easy 30 minutes in the shoe department as I made lazy circles and formulated a boot pro/con list in my head. Finally I found these babies, and I love them. The heel isn't that bad, the material feels decent and not that cheap, and the height being mid-calf is PERFECT. Hello, fall, I'm reeeeeady!!

7. Ahhhhh. My Columbia jacket. I have a gray one from last season, but the zipper broke in one of my lesser-proud moments of complete blind rage. I don't have these moments often..... that you need to know about, at least. Now I have a black one and my life is complete. COMPLETE. Seriously, if you don't have a Columbia jacket: get one. Thank me later!
