<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK55IuRzhZe4TsOrwmyAI4oEZkZNMSNS_npBolU3F1Rp-dxsoptJrMVO0paVyKCb6wyPus2e4PeAr9QHsd3-Tl5aaGSfPKRrZuwPlv14bPJ5-V36jOUGIhmlzhiStRGwjfYhg6SW4hkNk/s1600/10424472_561348497310853_1539847699_n.jpg" height="640" width="640" /> </div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
As the blog said originally, there are no real step-by-step instructions for this DIY. Basically, if you start with a darker paint color and keep adding white paint to it, the ombré effect will happen naturally. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was fun, actually painting and getting results because let's face it, I am no artist. My dad was a for real artist (paints, easels and everything), and I always dreamt of having that talent... but no dice. I just don't have the kind of creativity that can turn nothing into something with a flick of my wrist and a palette of paint. I wish!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But anyway - my ombré art: it's simple, it's not flashy.... and I love it. I'm happy! :)</div>

Well more like I think it's glum. It's boring. It's decorated in a broad color spectrum of beige, brown, white and more beige. *yawn*. </span></span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Here's a picture of my living room about a month after we moved in. </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIVIkq6h0-vxIqOA18KnSguIGxKa2IdbUC1PujT2i7V3maMGV76bhmj4WR3QmgwM8TPiOPIUc_KnPOjFbdkeT3YyUBzsmbvo3Po1LEW2VvZNhuI92bWKbqMBRvkcWxvX4FIc5bUHJYiLk/s1600/2013-02-03+14.56.55.jpg" height="400" width="500" /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Not much has changed since this picture was taken. The couch has been pushed back and now my husband's desk is in the back corner. And we have a new tv? Other than that, samesville. </span></span></div>
<div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I decided quickly that I don't necessarily want to repaint....the beige walls aren't my biggest irritation with the room. A beige wall isn't the enemy. It's the insane lack of color. Brown blinds, white trim, brown table, brown couch, brown clock... I could go on. </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">What I decided to do was inject color slowly. I bought bright blue and green pillows on clearance at target, to go with the existing burnt orange pillows I've had since we got married. That wasn't enough though. I began looking around my house for things I could swap out and place in my living room. I remembered that my sister in law had bought me durable paper coasters in Katie Daisy prints. I saw a project on Pinterest that involved an old picture frame, string, mini clothespins and Instagram prints. I immediately decided that this was the <a href="http://quietandcolorful.blogspot.com/2014/06/coaster-art.html" target="_blank">perfect idea</a> for the coasters, since I knew right off the bat that I wasn't going to put drinks on them. </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4rPU1tHDUGZ3jyNSHXSkr8zCpVKTDrrt7xae38ej2tC601eBwBekjrsYSe4jWb7T4aUTSKuaqs3ClIjUtdAkHwpUG0WSgCkjYO3pEJUKJURV-_u7MbwnMWH83GlnrQW96suecVcHu93U/s640/blogger-image-1232307730.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4rPU1tHDUGZ3jyNSHXSkr8zCpVKTDrrt7xae38ej2tC601eBwBekjrsYSe4jWb7T4aUTSKuaqs3ClIjUtdAkHwpUG0WSgCkjYO3pEJUKJURV-_u7MbwnMWH83GlnrQW96suecVcHu93U/s400/blogger-image-1232307730.jpg" width="500" /></a></span></span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I just love how it turned out. Everyone told me how cute and creative it was when I shared it on Facebook and I was so happy that it brought in pops of color to my beige walls. </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I had a big empty space on the other side of the window that was still calling my name. It was so empty and boring. </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh52Wr5sdGoLweHlPc-Rdbjn4VByZPNL__RnQtUwjsa8XwO4BeIfag95FGvGML9gH3nXqvVC0KE9nLIgjsqec-Sn4lCgamV_l4iK_ik0Q1OI7AzU0b3QPLXBDL8IQHS8Z6JGPXTGFZ9_5s/s1600/blogger-image--1823317466.jpg" height="500" width="400" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I would
eventually like to get a taller bookshelf to house all of our books, but
in the meantime we have condensed it to just as many books that fit in
the 3 shelves. </span></span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">My friend Carrie and I had started talking about gallery walls, and I knew I wanted to do one eventually. I just wasn't sold on how much I would probably end up spending on frames and Etsy prints. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">One night, I just caved. I have a large box of random picture frames that I've collected over the years and never used. I started picking out frames that looked good together and matching them with prints I made myself and scrapbook papers that I love. </span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbOBu97LnqGl_zYdZQSfgvmRvABOv8hYSMKTPlFFDMgaSQCIthw6avg4dNrOewZcL2pb0wzVVfqg6066ewxIR6ST7RnEX7V8Gg7gXYyWHPaFObNA6EeOpeqQMfKMxrQpaTAuRMfg3MaI4/s1600/927692_536875469750048_475382993_n.jpg" height="500" width="500" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I think it turned out awesome.</span></span> </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Probably not. It's been like 18 years since I've logged into this blog.<br />
<br />
Whoops.<br />
<br />
Excuses such as "life got busy" or "I had to focus on me" don't apply here. I wasn't busy. I focus on me quite a lot. I just stopped caring. For a while, I was living in a basement and all of my crafts were boxed away in storage. Then we bought a house and sure, things did get crazy. But we didn't do any major updates to the house that I thought would have been blog-worthy. We mostly painted and moved in.<br />
<br />
I've done crafty things since... but nothing I felt warranted a blog post. I don't even really think this does, based on how little time and resources it took me to complete it. Buuuuut, I think it turned out perfectly and exactly how I imagined it. And cost me literally $2.99 to make. The best!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOAbe8BjdaAZN3UUDGfzUO89KwlBZ8zTobdQ_L8EVkrt8nn2Ux5MkXuyw4bJ5sr0HeQZXZQGUpJ4H_sYRNrhDCrDrheeX8rta0WHLp16pQT_tFy2yW5wvKpKBzaBlV2dTE3UxbqozM6PE/s640/blogger-image-608069846.jpg" /></div>
<br />
I took apart an old print so that I could use the frame. It actually took a screwdriver to pop out staples and some serious patience, but it worked out. Part of me wanted to take out the glass, but I think it helps preserve the coasters a little better since they aren't exposed to the elements.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1bEguDAHvtR_w4SkmguZS3OT7lNqQtI0MTXp6K5Syh6nfJwBbBnBL_BTRduoGJNPTq68wACbIbHEnM6WtqzByGsO_BO4XJ8BzHDtRfMMAaP89PeJu5v6Y1etip0T4txOJ2qFvRK81Gzk/s640/blogger-image--439453932.jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
(This is a bad picture of the frame before I destroyed it.)<br />
<br />
I then measured out string that I already had on hand and stapled it into the back of the frame, making sure they were taut. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The only money came from the mini clothespins - I think I spent $2.99 on a bag of 50 from Hobby Lobby.<br />
<br />
The coasters were a gift from my sister in law for my birthday last year. The artist is Katie Daisy, and if you aren't familiar with her work, I strongly suggest checking out her <a href="http://thewheatfield.etsy.com/" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a> and buying everything. These coasters are actually manufactured by Drinkblots and are called 'Life is Beautiful'.<br />
<br />
After about 5 minutes of work, I now have a completely one-of-a-kind statement piece that features my favorite artist AND breaks up the monotony of my beige walls.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHzV66NWF2bCHQPBDnaPneibVHp778jh5VgW6ANbsyfPPPL5LXSiuwKEk9Dw0DL6163jkUDJ_vykZDUaW393EAeDcBNutXaB8WsMWvHnBDrHYpjyOdONq3ksAPh3g0D1C1M71pnzLsPFE/s640/blogger-image-484903515.jpg" /></div>
<br />
I'm officially in love!</div>
</div>
Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-35584931012149784742013-08-26T21:27:00.001-05:002013-08-26T21:54:34.489-05:00Let your coasters do all the talking! (warning: curse words)Don't you just get SO CHEESED OFF when you're hosting a <i>slammin' </i>party and then BAM! you find yourself in a tough situation where you didn't want to come across as rude, but damn it if you haven't told your soon-to-be-ex-friend A MILLION TIMES not to put her drink on your coffee table?!?! I mean, come on!<br />
<br />
<i>She</i> isn't the one that is going to have to get those pesky rings from hell off (though I'm sure there's some crafty solution on Pinterest) or be told by <i>her</i> husband that <i>me</i> and <i>my</i> friends are the reason we can't have nice things. No way. That's all me.<br />
<br />
Well, I've come up with a solution. A super awesome and passive aggressive solution. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXg4kFBRP799dvP393muUPb01J-6e7a4j85Np9CJCSc92o0IXp3n3-Ke_Hij_5wkBauYftCj05OepXj8ppNDMlseSUdLkGIX1k3QRDNSHayaE8rLQBEOVpelMALiQjZXIz9Z6SPEZhbgY/s1600/f5b5b7bc0d2511e3a8e322000a9f13d9_7.jpg" /></div>
<br />
Let your coasters do all the talking!! <br />
<br />
Actually, I can't take all the credit for these. My friend Cayse has coasters with these sayings that she originally bought from Urban Outfitters about a million years ago. The only link I could find is <a href="http://fancy.com/things/244443879087020205/Indelicate-Doily-Coasters" target="_blank">this one</a>. They are paper doily coasters and to make them more durable, she reinforced them onto pieces of cork and sprayed them with sealer.<br />
<br />
I thought they were perfect, and my husband thought they were funny, albeit tacky. <i>Even better.</i><br />
<br />
I vowed that night (as she handed me "no one likes a hot mess" and I pondered the significance) that these would soon grace my coffee table.<br />
<br />
Fast-forward like 3 months, because that's just how I do things. Ridiculously slow.<br />
<br />
I opened up Publisher, found some fonts I love and got to work. I left out "be considerate, bitches" only because I only had 4 tiles to work with. I'll probably add that one eventually. (read: most likely in 3 more months)<br />
<br />
I then decided they needed some pretty scrapbook paper, because what made the original coasters so amazing was that they were doilies. Like, how more prim and proper can you get than doilies?? So I chose this bright floral paper that just screamed girly. I attached some washi tape to two of the coasters, but didn't like how it looked with the other two, so I nixed it. That's the best part of these, they are rough. The ink on one smeared when I put on the first coat of mod podge. I didn't want them to be perfect. I'm literally calling you an asshole and a douchebag and implying you have worse manners than a skank. LITERALLY.<br />
<br />
So yeah, then I just mod podged the hell out of them. I think I used 3 coats, but they definitely should be sealed as well. Maybe when I make the other coaster. In like, 3 months. ;)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqkwUgRkey1csZnDmoU1J4TCQDHQOZetQJa4EPmEsD3rpJQjcNbkxxvMkiiVhWo1C1NdlxYrvRK_JkiiUyTo85I-A0fPH03t0iNejcZicX8Be5YqyeHUXc6eI-SeV03FdBnFUaxxYF8Uw/s1600/3b7c152a0d0311e3a57122000a1fbe0e_7.jpg" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In keeping with my inappropriate, child-unfriendly craft day, I also made this canvas that has found a home in my craft room. It's just wrapping paper hot glued to canvas with black glitter stickers. I was going to paint the whole canvas and take the stickers off, but decided I loved it too much to mess it up. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And it's a great message. Don't be mediocre. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>DO EPIC SHIT!</b></div>

<br />
I knew there would be some adjustments, besides size obviously. I thought about it for about 5 minutes, then went and dropped some money at Hobby Lobby. Ladies and gents, fleece is not cheap. Even on sale. But when you think about how long these blankets last and how excited kids will be to have totally customizable sleeping bags... it's totally worth it!!<br />
<br />
Like I said, these are totally customizable, and <i>totally</i> easy to make. There are so many options when it comes to fleece! For my projects, I chose rainbow peace signs and pink fleece for my 8 year old niece, and a baseball motif and gray fleece for my 4 year old nephew.<br />
<br />
<b>What I Used (per blanket):</b><br />
3.75 yards of patterned fleece<br />
2 yards of solid color fleece<br />
Fabric scissors<br />
A ruler/yardstick <span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>(I didn't use one, but some people like to measure things. I am not one of those people.) </i></span><br />

<br />
This isn't going to be a full tutorial, because there are a MILLION no-sew fleece blanket tutorials out there, and it really is the easiest thing in the world to do. If you don't know how to make one, google it (okay, <a href="http://pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=no%20sew%20blanket" target="_blank">Pinterest it</a>) and come back here if you want to turn it into a sleeping bag. ;)<br />
<br />
So, as I was saying. If you've ever made a no sew fleece blanket, you can totally
make this sleeping bag. The only difference is adding another layer of
fleece to the top side, though <i>not</i> the same length. You don't want to knot
all 3 layers together, that would just be a heavier blanket. And what fun is that?<br />
<br />
I made my sleeping bags 2 yards long and then got
another piece of the patterned fleece that was 1 3/4 yards to layer on
top. Remember, you are going to be cutting strips around all 4 sides, so the bag won't be quite 2 yards long when you're done.<br />
<br />
For me, I also wanted them a little narrower. I laid out all 3 layers on top of each other (pattern, solid, pattern), and then folded over approximately 1 foot on one side. I cut that strip off, and was left with a narrower blanket. I wanted it to be more of a sleeping bag and less of a blanket, and thought that would help. I think it turned out perfect! (And now I have a 12 inch wide piece of scrap to do.....something with!)<br />
<br />
Knot all around the sides, and fold down a flap on one side so that you can make
it easier for your kids to get inside. That was the only change I made
from the doll tutorial I found. <b>Don't knot all 4 sides up tight</b>, you want to make it so that a child can
get out in case of an emergency bathroom trip in the middle of the
night! Just the thought of tying down the top blanket entirely makes me claustrophobic!! You can see in the picture below, to make it look more finished I also cut the strips down the flap and tied them together. But feel free to leave it uncut and as it is!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOteCIqiPPWuJia_YwXFiLoU0LYB7fC8i3zK3lFW8m5CbqHWkXDv-wc5MdQREkXO5dFZ1N2kQ_422NqQGkydMJD9bA53AzQds4ydcADQgKLcWWmmmF70e7ZhSYGsocPUlnRNk5ZKqiQpc/s640/2013-06-15+12.17.29.jpg" width="480" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I finished, I cut a strip of excess patterned fleece and double knotted it around the bag for a handle. These bags are going to stay at our house for when my niece and nephew come sleep over, but that way storage is easier and the kids can pick them up without them unrolling everywhere.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9jjur-PZJngHpOKUllMdxfz1iRETgAdOkZS6N5v-hhL-w1WZFOytl6jN6d07SSQQ_23fosCEvcGitftM7kuouCtmOKhcxB5Jz3MujGwW4k3Y9KiruVegKSLNRtAm76xBsJtrEfzl68EE/s1600/2013-06-15+12.24.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9jjur-PZJngHpOKUllMdxfz1iRETgAdOkZS6N5v-hhL-w1WZFOytl6jN6d07SSQQ_23fosCEvcGitftM7kuouCtmOKhcxB5Jz3MujGwW4k3Y9KiruVegKSLNRtAm76xBsJtrEfzl68EE/s640/2013-06-15+12.24.02.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am beyond excited for the kids to see these next weekend and see how they will react. I spent nearly 4 hours total working on these blankets, and I know I won't get 4 hours of praise (though their parents could really suggest that, it'd be cool). Even if I just get, <i>"WOAH, LOOK AT THAT!! OH MAN, THAT'S SO COOL. Can I have a snack? Are we going to watch a movie? But I don't want to watch that!" </i>it will be enough for my little heart. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In my head, I know that I could have just thrown down a pillow and blanket and they would have been thrilled just to be in my house, but instead I poured my love for these 2 crazy kids into 10 yards of fleece. I hope one day, they will realize how important they are to me. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't know what I would do if these kids weren't in my life, but mostly, I'm just happy I can spoil them and send them home later. With a total sugar buzz. Isn't that what aunts are for?</div>

Taking a cue from my good friend Cayse (not to mention smart), I decided to make cute little 'clean' and 'dirty' signs for our dishwasher! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhCvuS27A2EoeOVHGx9l-jWW4fVLA980nNa0S0omHq1zPgGe3aWOi95gaQa5TzL_NrAJpvV9eCjfWaI-97ln4VSsIhbNFOe7VqbpSBJQpvVDSjjwM4EdA0h4bhAVS0-N6-wcnHYw3WTfA/s640/2013-03-29+22.52.54.jpg" width="480" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Joey and I are constantly saying, "hey is this clean or dirty?" before
getting a cup or looking for that specific knife (that somehow always is
dirty). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All I did was buy 2 little frames with magnets already attached. I actually found these in the Dollar Spot at Target tonight, so for $1 a piece, I am not complaining. For my signs, I just used scrapbook supplies that I had on hand. Just cute letter stickers and fun borders, cut to fit the frame. I just mounted it all on white printer paper and slid them in the frames. So easy! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now we have an organizational system that is cute, but also super functional. I just unloaded the dishwasher, so I slapped on the 'dirty' sign and all is good in the world!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I hope everyone had a wonderfully spooky Halloween! Joey and I went
to see my Grandpa in his nursing home with all my little cousins all
dressed up in their costumes. It was delightfully adorable to see them
all pretending to be dead prom queens, witches and ninjas. My oldest
(little) cousin was Bob Marley, and man, was he too cool for school.
Brady, my nephew, was Spiderman and so were my twin cousins that are
also the same age.... so the three of them thought that was pretty neat!<br />
<br />
After
visiting my Grandpa, we went and bought some bags of candy (nothing
like the last minute) and handed it all out to trick or treaters in the
neighborhood. There were TONS of little baby Cardinals players, so that
was cute. We didn't get many teenagers, but we also ran out of candy at
like 8pm. Ha!!<br />
<br />
We spent the Sunday evening prior to Halloween with my brother and his family doing a fun spooky appetizer themed dinner! My sister-in-law LOVES Halloween and really went all out with the food and decorations. We had mummy hot dogs, pumpkin dip, cheese ball mice... just to name a few. Her bean dip even had a face! My sister made witches fingers out of pretzel rods and green candy melts, but I didn't get a picture of those.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3DX-X67smLD1jl6KAavBx7821kk6Gs5-ygFTd-zSLmoQPQLcIKhkIpBTRChTCDLnnAsvo5CT3qgb_ihtRK-E5yr7PvcbGYTGtoKHWxDwOC0L-tRrePpcqbB2rfTbojKUNJ1J8ckb259s/s320/2012-10-28+17.27.51.jpg" width="320" /> <img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-yvmHKh-66DT9HiQ9bwaKjGc827nel9Exk_50yPgOSowJ6fTkCy5eb05np795L7ibrhzZDg3NhH_pzrDDYI9crDapK6Qr-ORMv62V_isXJYRXUjIsCC-9u7wfK4to3PLBWmuZeoptgYs/s320/2012-10-28+17.28.35.jpg" width="320" /> <img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPPznIC8z5aGvbpYCsHWkm1YVAe1LXLoCkHZA5mtiuJ8JlS3NZ7W-VGfThIqb5YPYgFuj_xrv2SPVfM3Zpxji086fBI6mapLWldQpU0RcWZTnvTT0_I1-9l2JF5GbCstO4OInV_3IfUz0/s320/2012-10-28+17.30.24.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<br />
I contributed these adorable cookies to the dinner, and also to work on Halloween day itself. They were super easy to make and everyone was really excited about them. I got so many compliments at work!<br />
<br />

<b> </b><br />
<b>TO MAKE: </b>All you need are 3 ingredients that can be found at probably any store. I got them at Walmart! Just grab a package of Keebler Elf fudge cookies (I've seen Nutter Butters used too), white melting chocolate and <u>mini</u> chocolate chips.<br />
<br />
Melt the chocolate as directed on the package and dip the cookies in halfway, shaking off the excess. Place on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper. Before the chocolate cools, place 2 mini chocolate chips at the top for the eyes.<br />
<br />
I put the cookie sheet in the fridge overnight and put them on a festive little pumpkin plate and the chocolate stayed hard the entire night!<br />
<br />
Like I said, any oval-ish cookie can be used... I just love the elf cookies because it looks like they are wearing a ghost costume! *Note the poor elf in the middle of the picture on the left who put his sheet on upside down. Whoops!<br />
<br />

<br />
You also can't go wrong with temporary tattoos! I was the office Tattoo Artist on Wednesday.... love!<br />
<br />
Now bring on Thanksgiving! Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-77767705638073244952012-10-20T19:01:00.000-05:002012-10-21T12:41:37.169-05:00We are wedding-ed out!October has been a very hectic month so far. I know that it's been forever since I posted, so I apologize for my temporary leave of absence.<br />
<br />
Joey and I had 2 weddings right off the bat this month, one of which we were actually involved in. For pretty much the entire end of September and beginning of October, my entire free time was devoted to helping my lovely cousin Lisa get the finishing touches done for her wedding.<br />
<br />
I designed, printed and assembled her program, timeline and reception place cards.... with her and Kirstie's help of course!! I could not have have gotten them all finished in time without these amazing ladies.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOyU2UrKxgmyi90NyEG8fWHvzh5_ptk2qUKbOuzkeU3wmeXUDFJsGT5dS6Ycxewp89EWo5bYX2s78hDpmHbIXnW-bmdGySuZIO370pIPZkLQZGeKpnK-sfaBjHkB2UONKm2Vl2VluJe0I/s640/2012-10-20+18.30.53.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
It was so much fun browsing Pinterest and taking ideas from here and there, along with visions I already had in my head and turning them into finished products! The program took the longest to make. The hardest parts were definitely getting everything aligned, picking the right shade of lavender and getting everyone's names spelled correctly! I think they turned out pretty awesome though.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoCRSw34czrJRmUMpB7OCorj0ecsFqB8mO3627eLZnjAQ49IpPtXE1BsL2Eu2OsnYADpP2tZFQ_oHV55qBEHH2uswFzt2LyYKOGjLcKvTMhze8Un0_mZ5zHsSzMJ0U6orFPZsROyI-YNU/s1600/2012-10-20+20.32.31.png" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I also found a wedding timeline on Pinterest and decided to make my own version. It's pretty similar to the one I found, I have to admit, but it still gave me the satisfaction of doing it myself. It was a big hit with everyone and it really seemed to limit the annoying questions of "Where do we go next?" and "How long of a wait til the reception?", which some people really think are appropriate questions to bother the Bride and Groom with. I am a firm believer that every wedding should implement these cards.<br />
<br />
The reception place cards were due to the fact that the reception was a sit-down dinner and not a buffet. The colored backing helped the staff identify who ordered salmon (lavender) and who ordered chicken (black). It really helped and was a clever idea since it wasn't overly obvious!<br />
<br />
The following pictures are a couple snapshots from the night before the wedding and during. I didn't get many pictures because I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off all day. Seriously......... I didn't sit down once all day, except for the actual wedding itself and dinner. But I loved every second of it!<br />
<br />

My lovely husband and I at the reception. We were both sweaty and tired by this point. <br />
<br />
The next weekend was Casey and Amanda's wedding! We spent the entire day in downtown St. Louis with our friends Dustin and Brandon. It was such an awesome day.... I just totally forgot to take pictures. Ummmm, whoops!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We spent the time between the wedding and the reception at this pretty sweet bar/restaurant/hipster hangout called Plush. We ate weird food, I had a cider beer, and about 3 coffees. Guys, the napkins were tye-dye and cloth. TOTAL HIPSTER HANGOUT.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8hpMf95WT9EpmmPjx-FpVuLeYM6YCjqRxpPYw9oFXijHfZI-LOAPGlgnBIKAafwr00OAoVsGaQBAOW9QEHajYwgnr-dOy5lupEE6nA0uDub3gfdVqjgZWwNuwpv4gOCLdUInVaoqLS7k/s640/2012-10-13+16.24.43.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
The upstairs of Plush was a huge open loft area with ping pong tables, a pool table and tons of mismatched seating areas and a bean bag pit. It had huge open windows and exposed brick walls. <br />
<br />

<br />
The centerpieces! I love me a good mason jar craft. These battery operated lights were an awesome touch, as there was only dim lighting at the reception. Made a very romantic atmosphere!<br />

Us and the groom. YAY WEDDINGS!!!<br />
<br />
So yes, it's safe to say that Joey and I are officially wedding-ed out for 2012. We are going to rest and prepare for the Wedding season 2013... we're looking at you Roadie/Carrie and Brian/Kirstie!!!! We can't wait...... but are SUPER relieved you aren't getting married this year. ;)Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-49230697580932940712012-08-18T18:54:00.000-05:002012-08-18T18:54:16.268-05:00DIY Doily Wedding DressesAbout 2 weeks ago, I promised you a tutorial on how to make the doily wedding dresses that I made for my cousin's shower invitations. Well, hey! Better late than never! ;)<br />
<br />
Let's get one thing straight first. These were not a brain child of mine, no sir. I wish I had come up with them. Pinterest introduced me to these fancy frocks by way of a blog called <a href="http://paperpaws.blogspot.com/2012/05/doily-dress-folds-tutorial.html" target="_blank">Paper, Paws, etc</a>. <br />
<br />
Here is my step-by-step tutorial to make your own paper princess ball gowns!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2GC4WGn81kIEMSyLwkEWjGE5PyICbvka4syMK8kyYRd8g24ookM8DxNongiaicaot9XdCiqA_V8Ht7CgNXLH68_LyneZMr6Tt7dKtCU9R8aYe7mwCSRexsLGgvRgbqJijde4t8wD5Ezs/s640/2012-08-18+16.07.02.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Supplied needed:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- 4" paper doilies, I found them in the cake section of my craft store (you need approx 2 doilies for each dress, so plan ahead)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Gluesticks</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Scissors</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- White cardstock</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Ribbon, in your choice of color</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Heart punch (any craft store should sell one big enough)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Brads, or any decorative embellishment that can be adhered without falling off easily</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<center>
</center>
<div style="text-align: left;">
First off, you need to determine which is the the pretty side of the doily and which is the rough. I think it's pretty easy to tell when it's in front of you, but I included a picture above for reference just in case. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Since you want the pretty side to be more dominant, turn it face down. Rough side up, if you will.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguEfqVzwfTrltKv30F89XBxLK8AtMS7HGEHoQsQ3j-XOBDWwu3f0DrU4kTylaD84XvG6rtfpgycN30jxjN9Rpn96B2DtbDjLk7KfpkRQFjHLGDXUAX5uY54N0_oBC50ly9Agh1eU55XRs/s640/2012-08-18+16.09.22.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<br />
Then, fold the doily just to the white circle at the bottom. Don't fold the doily in half completely, because you're wanting to create 2 layers of the dress. You'll see just about an inch of rough lace when you look at your folded doily.<br />
<br />
Crease so that you have a firm edge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKHIgEZr1j6WtC3zKuLbQjvbbNhYikVpEEfeXszb3egbllyoIxmlq94ZTQw5OuDn-_m3Rxl94GCkMc3bC1ftWokmmregae1JULPfzbIH7mTBOIe7mZEkisDSd5MpZsnfZuaDKwvDIJ4ew/s640/2012-08-18+16.10.01.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<br />
Then, take the top right corner of the doily and bring it down towards the left, lining it up where the white circle and the lace meet. A 90 degree angle, as long as you don't check my measurements for correctness. Or my grammar. ;)<br />
<br />
Glue that corner so that it doesn't come apart. You don't need a lot of glue, and make sure it dries clear since you're going to be gluing on the lace part.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPqsp1hLoo5YLrAZ1XQO2_ljn2c2Saol7QpM1hJIsCY3fPwUwqz5a9eHwR0vzpPrSbgpFMyNCipnMjmKErQ3z1xJffD7lv2KuXnNilKx3r0NWeI3wjkOVcDL6kLa1BJqeKlQLMw8-Die0/s640/2012-08-18+16.10.41.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<br />
When you're done, you should have a triangle point at the top, and 3 layers of the dress. The rough part at the bottom of the dress, then a folded part in the middle, and the piece you just folded over and glued down. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKGv02JNESKaEk1zPM-SLjoqY4IyKJoSa5QgVuJXhkH-qf8OFLJ7QGhTKBZtBksUXzJuEWfsNn_kTewyFtCSHipOLTaeCIO91Yq-c_GBT12lRfFhTEbFKScNPhQus81QbF6rfJzxAwwp4/s640/2012-08-18+16.13.32.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now to make the top of the dress! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Take a doily and fold it in half. Put it on top of a piece of white cardstock and position it in the heart stamp so that you like what you see. I felt that you needed to see some white so that the sweetheart neckline was lace only. It's totally up to you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This will actually make 2 doily hearts, so you'll need to make more white cardstock hearts to keep up. I tried folding the cardstock in half as well, and it was too thick for my punch to go through the stack. Experiment!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhqaLSdMv7796xVEflp7VBz0-LOs5Eru-PYblnCE8agMd7Q1Rl5X6H_sow6PAZKrjHi4EcvYK1a8ZGKmqWhvc4Zycjf1SF7LDA3T9JbDe9w_a3AAzXARu7ThP9V4D9DPnp_pNQZyxulAo/s640/2012-08-18+16.14.55.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<br />
Glue the doily to the white cardstock. Aww, so pretty!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp26eDC_je4rtVeNF1Fk1W_KUYzM1x-AeueKucAiO1KrYApAZBdyHhhDC8dTTWfvDzJ-vbnYUIhbtPF9pyVWHEHHzrqstyIl4OmSu_P6vLSu0VN7jWpGQbMvbs9i5kkkx3mhyonWq-B6A/s640/2012-08-18+16.16.37.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<br />
Snip off the sides of the heart at an angle... I actually cut too much off of this one (in my personal opinion... also too straight), so the finished product I'm showing you is much cuter than this one would have been. Oops!<br />
<br />
Also take the tip of the skirt and fold it backwards, and glue down.<br />
<br />
<center>
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7GzJSYxxNWxaCNHrmWujhzg5PmpHhBBFPJ8Kks483xwJTlK04mnPcS9z7-mMM3fGSFs4jiu0xeWMJH6TJQp2ShG6Qs5NsU8jAuhTEDcJ76TeTLIIWyvNJdvfiFIR-5aptbdXLMn2_7JY/s400/2012-08-18+16.18.09.jpg" width="300" /> <img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7LvOTPic2gQ96ngAn7iFQJnwBxvFt4bbV0TDBW9GR-vrYTy0VtR1DdICzKQ349_GWj9JnjCSEWXy3scXxs64UPfRUWaFscYPTa2SKpN-P_LSANApdNkhVqflKT98jtzlP-yK3cj3bbis/s400/2012-08-18+16.18.16.jpg" width="300" /></center>
<br />
Glue the top of the dress to the bottom piece, and wrap your ribbon around the two pieces. Glue the ribbon to the back to attach it, but DO NOT glue the ribbon on the front of the dress.<br />
<br />
Keep it loose, goose!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXrkjt3A-dVCE3aFI92mdiWSAq4KfkPpbQTMVP32cPNhw-ez4m1VE-4vljEEyEG1JG_DS96LCN_d45xyQmOSOzuJn4LteHJ02pVtMLRmSemPLm4bVAmzzYhOA7trhLq0or-Zn5-6VFyiU/s640/2012-08-18+16.19.00.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
See? You needed to keep it unglued in front because the next step is to put another piece of ribbon through the sash. I liked how it looked when it was at uneven lengths, but do what ever makes you happy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjicvgujZ6e8tfZDsC2_ZHyjs6TqRrQuckIC2-XRGj-kuUhchbYcjmOEbw4nBJaTcQnspR5w1zY87bYFzlkJjU2_r3n0bwvJSBrzRz3nekCOTH_AKDqrFMDa06nllOLGWac5b3z2JFvuQ0/s640/2012-08-18+16.19.19.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Then push the brad through the whole dang mess to secure the ribbon, or glue any embellishment you want to put there. If you don't want anything to embellish the sash, you could just glue the ribbon down, to make sure it doesn't fall out.<br />
<br />
I hope you have fun with these.... you should definitely send me a picture of your finished pieces if you decide to make them! I'd love to see them <br />
<br />
Or, I am totally for hire. Call me, maybe! ;)Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-8337851524967597142012-08-17T21:55:00.001-05:002012-08-17T21:55:30.396-05:00Playing Catch<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It has been so hot here lately. I was beginning to think I would never see below the 80 degree mark on the temperature gauge in my car. I've seen some of my friends on Facebook talking about the fall-ish weather where they live, and some of my favorite blogs are already posting about their new favorite Fall clothes.<br />
<br />
Today, though.... today it was 64 degrees at 8 am. That is so huge for me! I think it's been colder than that in the morning in recent days, but I don't step outside until 8 am or later on any given day, so 64 degrees was awesome.<br />
<br />
This afternoon I went outside with some coworkers and just reveled in the beautiful weather. I lost ALL motivation to work for the rest of the day, naturally, but it was just such a nice break in the day to be able to go outside without sweating to death. I made my coworker come with me so that she would make sure that I came back inside. There was a joke about a retractable leash made. Probably a good idea, though a little weird. ;)<br />
<br />
Tonight Joey and I played catch outside for about 30 minutes. We started getting attacked by mosquitoes and it got dark fast, so next time we will plan better and start playing earlier in the night. And wear bug spray. It was fun though... I've always had a special place in my heart for playing catch. I played softball from age 5 to age 11 and ended my 'career' as a catcher. I may not be good at softball, or even just playing catch, and I am definitely terrified of the ball coming straight for my face... but I was never the athlete so I don't feel too bad about it!<br />
<br />
I have a lot of fond memories playing catch with my dad when I was very young, going to practice every week, playing huge games of wiffle ball with the neighbor kids and playing t-ball with my younger sister. Softball definitely means a lot to me.<br />
<br />

Her and Nick will be happy forever and the wedding was absolute proof of that.<br />

Joey was super honored to be an usher, and I enjoyed myself thoroughly all day long.<br />
<br />
It was indeed a long day, but one filled with family, love and lots and lots of dancing!<br />

Joey and I scored really great Cardinals tickets for tonight's game.... and BONUS! They were free!! My awesome cousin decided that 110 degree weather wasn't for him and decided to give away his tickets.<br />
<br />
While the weather was a complete beast, and believe me I sweated more than I care to mention, I loved every hot, sweaty minute of it. Our cousin Lisa and her fiance Chris (to anyone that knows me, that opening was awkward) came along, and we had so much fun.... especially once the sun went down and the wind picked up a little. Not to mention the very drunk girl in front of us with her spray bottle fan... she was nice enough to spray our faces and cool us down, even if it was just for a minute.<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx4bWP0AQiPafBvwn6CKIWXaf2UCqDK8VQdbuwTZpQty4sw7VOHbo6EyJBgc4hNGC4CMiDRX8kcrgrIDSYW_oO5SFXoECIaQumYrY8hMmOmzV9z6XITBgIOdfrbtAcchtr2fN8L1GkW3E/s400/2012-07-01+11.53.14.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
This seriously took me longer than it should have, but I am pleased with just how....defective..... it looks. Ha!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9hNBUHiJYxWASkLGiyjzWCXtPKxLiYwW7uQnmM-BuOXgAW2iwqL_cKwAOYrt5UkH86X6VW7eJQ7DB-JcRH0uhwzAy1QGOe2Q4Yc08fIr0mbn8YgR92BI1Tmp5MGfzZc8duDWfur2YcOY/s640/2012-07-01+12.46.09.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
Fourth of July, here I am! I am ready for your plentiful BBQ, your booze and your yummy desserts.<br />
<br />
And uh, celebrating my independence, of course. Duh.<br />
<br />
I am debating on a couple recipes to try... I have a food day at work, a BBQ next weekend and probably something on the actual 4th itself with the in-laws.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://pinterest.com/kerrywoah/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> once again proved its worthiness when I stumbled across this <a href="http://penniesonaplatter.com/2012/06/01/fruity-brownie-dessert-pizza/" target="_blank">brownie fruit pizza</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXPP0jBwQO6n5GBjWRUM0YAm0xlVPGnrKczh48FY8isICe9oGWFrnkUm6V4AcFwR0AGDp8uOvua6hGVmKuhLWoXKdtUQIM_3zh7JqJx4cln2Le2-55uoIGMbvNiud84pk7TeLUANy2FcU/s400/pizza.tiff" width="262" /></div>
<br />
It's not totally 4th of July in its creation, but completely inspired. I think I will keep the banana on, just because I love banana, but it would totally work with just the combination of berries. I also was thinking of adding some kiwi, but maybe that's for another time.<br />
<br />
I also will toot my own horn here, but last year I made these <a href="http://newlywedcooks.wordpress.com/2011/07/03/happy-4th-of-july/" target="_blank">Red, White and Blue strawberries</a> for my big family BBQ. They were a huge hit with every age group and took about 5 minutes to make.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_SM0xaVfEMVsdYGOlmrabPar7_N_evOm7oWPiP08w_Ic1Go6h5pAKa1xBsC_lyrUXtVPDovDL4qSQvWHZe23Xc8dJ3SwkoJW3Vf7vDU4dEP6YFyHDYpjG0ZTcvnvo9CeI82r0xA3x4mQ/s400/DSCI0048.JPG" width="400" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i> Please ignore this awful picture. Please. </i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also have been eyeballin' these pretties.<i> </i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQK40oOK5vutcugazbQXXt1BoPVd3wNMeSEEA0eFRZT4qX6_qM3cT8WxuxRabj44JFvEIt6Wb-tBOdF3o7T9ruX3-A_eemPXmmdpoEoLTNn7LVdyG4Hgcxe2qEfTTyLX7qa6JjuvRoHYg/s400/2814818487723861_3IgZHb9J_f.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I would obviously need to buy a popsicle mold in order to emmulate the whimsy of these <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/318346/firecracker-ice-pops" target="_blank">Firecracker Ice Pops</a>, but I think it would be a great investment because my Pinterest food board is brimming with different homemade popsicles, and some even include booze. Heeeellllo, summer! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But all this recipe entails is sugar, strawberries, blue berries and plain yogurt. Easy enough!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'll letcha know what I come up with. ;) I love summer!</div>Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-84193237122083873462012-06-24T17:04:00.000-05:002012-06-24T17:04:05.494-05:00Sea Life KCI thought I'd post some of the aquarium pictures that we took at Sea Life KC on Friday afternoon.<br />
<br />
I am definitely not much into sea life, but Joey loves it and it was totally worth it to see him be so excited. He was like one of the kids.... and boy, were there LOTS of kids.<br />

<br />
Joey and I just got back from Kansas City! We celebrated my birthday there Thursday and Friday. We had a blast, and I wish we were still there.... but we had a jam-packed 2 days so I feel great about it.<br />
<br />
In our two days, we checked into the hotel, shopped at <a href="http://www.zonarosa.com/" target="_blank">Zona Rosa</a>, ordered delectable birthday desserts from the hotel restaurant, went to the new <a href="http://www.visitsealife.com/Kansas-city/" target="_blank">Sea Life</a> aquarium, ate sno cones by the fountains, went to a <a href="http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=kc&sv=1" target="_blank">Kansas City Royals</a> game with my friend Janna, watched fireworks, said goodbye to our hotel, and met with some friends for lunch.<br />
<br />
Then we made the 3 mile trek across Missouri and here we are. :)<br />
Time for bed!<br />

<br />
<br />
My sister made my Mom's chicken salad wraps, my sister-in-law made a yummy chocolate cake with vanilla icing and caramel drizzle (honestly to die for) and I'm sure my brother did something constructive with his day. ;)<br />
<br />
It's kind of convenient having my only living immediate family living under one roof. And to boot, they are all pretty much rockstars. Especially my niece and nephew. They made me these amazing cards!<br />
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJwaaCH-rpbcGqVlmYVdgbYVAr9W1Mb8HOftyq6ZybpZzdK54rEocjc76mjQEiNaJLdyhikAkZHC7GenAngbr0NT8byFmGfI8voz4t1Iy7zbQnHYwlbYszbg-3BV_Y6_BYiuT2eiuf8_0/s640/Photo+Jun+18%252C+10+07+04+PM.jpg" width="640" /><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgToh7ckyVtuAPX5atuIb2rAI_XQme7f6kjSC6_YHyAfkJZGUFVZTYjO-AuVTNpFWGdim8KHm33qjJroWwuMirhNKvl1uxa1o2_EptikjqgL6bz3frAxvZKPfegiH2hKFroafKdMlMoxvg/s640/Photo+Jun+18%252C+10+15+05+PM.png" width="640" /></div>
<br />
Their ages (7 & 3) are so much fun right now and I am so happy I get to watch them grow up. I walked in the door and my nephew flung himself at me saying Happy Birthday!! I honestly could not be any happier than when I am around them.<br />
<br />
My little sister proved to know me well by her gift. A beautiful bird candle and this bracelet she found on <a href="http://etsy.com/" target="_blank">Etsy</a>! I think Etsy is one of my favorite websites right now. I would rather get a thought-out gift that was hand crafted over mass produced any day!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh814JXxXCztKa4BpWejPUBHn-tlFitP6ujqAbVOl9HqdsDTLSjOB5AKMeYTkg5vm5jzFc1ZMUDKI6tIE3T1Y23lz2rk4vSAhOZ7cpfKwAvzNXwhbiD6gIgaa5CZichlU0a-b0wOj-Zoyo/s640/Photo+Jun+18,+10+11+26+PM.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
I just love that my new little blue bird candle matches perfectly with my owl one I bought before we moved. I just may be in the makes of a bird-themed candle collection! ;)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh680aq8qn9dncGD8n9gSgnV7n0M_C5Rb3bRWJfON_8huK6qV2WvbRg3EA2z9pGwjVycaCKLmV5d5E_pc7kAhY7duTE2qYfL2PAyu__-LjmUQ_A3cPIMdyeJHutc7vYwa9EqMAFpNAl-O0/s640/Photo+Jun+18,+10+12+48+PM.jpg" width="640" /> </div>
<br />
My brother and sister-in-law won my heart over with <a href="http://www.panerabread.com/" target="_blank">Panera</a> gift cards. There is nothing on this planet that is better than Panera. Yum. Right now I am super into their Strawberry Poppyseed salad with chicken. Go get some, if you've never been. You won't be disappointed! And you'll love me more.<br />
<br />
Also carbs.<br />
Yay, carbs! (translation: boo, carbs!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji8k-J4cjWjU_qZVpmslbUZVs2t685LRBQhf91tcC2HX-igin8ZQSvH_ikBCKakW72cGinuTpIDODjX6YsKodhstzQP353lYZd-nVwNMu9KjmTXqVp6ZFTJ8CC2-uCmV7r18sz8rd5IbU/s640/Photo+Jun+18,+10+17+18+PM.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
This is the best. Obviously it's from How I Met Your Mother, our collective favorite TV show. The best part about this shirt is the fact that I was lactose intolerant for roughly 10 years growing up, til about 2 years ago when I outgrew it. I used to say this ALL the time when I first heard it on the show.... so this shirt is just so fitting! <br />
<br />
Thank you guys so much for dinner, cake, presents and just being the best family a girl could ask for.Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-91965076150835243962012-06-18T20:08:00.001-05:002012-06-18T20:08:39.389-05:00Father's Day<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Happy Father's Day! I hope everyone had a fantastic Sunday, spending the day with your Dad's, Granddad's, Step-Dad's, Dad-In-Law's..... basically any ole Dad's in your life.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was a bittersweet day for me. The first holiday without a parent is always the hardest... and it just struck me how completely unfair it is that I have past experience. Oh well, such is life I guess!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, I spent the day with Joey's family and celebrated his Dad. We ate good food, I made <a href="http://quietandcolorful.blogspot.com/2012/06/lawn-mower-cupcakes.html" target="_blank">cupcakes</a>,
and we went out for ice cream afterwards! I had a Turtle Sundae, yum.... ;)</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
It was an overall good day, and while I
wasn't sad for it to end, it definitely wasn't as hard as I thought it
might be. You know, based on past experience.<br />
<br />
I miss you Dad!<br />

So aren't these just the cutest cupcakes you ever did see? I mean, I
guess I am biased since I made them, but I think they turned out quite adorable. If I do say so myself.<br />

You can find the original recipe <a href="http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/holiday-seasonal-recipes/fathers-day-recipes/fathers-day-desserts/want-some-mower-699681/" target="_blank">here</a>, but I'm also gonna lay it out for you below. I just want to give credit where credit is due.<br />
<br />
<b>Ingredients:</b><br />
<br />
- Frosted cupcakes (keep extra frosting on hand)<br />
- Flaked Coconut<br />
- Green food coloring<br />
- Hershey's Nuggets<br />
- M&Ms (4 brown and 1 red per cupcake)<br />
- Licorice <br />
<br />
Ice the cupcakes (I used a yellow box mix) with chocolate frosting. You probably could also use vanilla frosting dyed green to make the coconut blend more.<br />
<br />
Put your flaked coconut in a ziploc bag. The bigger bag the better. Take 1 tbsp of water and add a couple drops of green food coloring, then pour over the coconut. Seal the bag, leaving air inside, and shake until the coconut is completely covered. Keep adding small amounts of water/coloring mixture until you get the color you want.<br />
<br />
Dip your cupcake in your green coconut and patch up any missing spots.<br />
<br />
Frost the bottom of your Hershey's bar and press it into the cupcake. Dab frosting on each M&M, 4 brown for the wheels and one red for the engine and press into place.<br />
<br />
The handle was the hardest part to get the way I wanted. The original recipe calls for black licorice but personally, that's gross. So I went with the Pull & Peel to get a smaller handle, but it mostly was just limp. But I 'glued' them on with frosting as much as possible and used a kebab skewer to push them inside the cupcake.<br />
<br />
So fun!! And cute. And summer-y!Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-26954742644488606112012-06-15T22:46:00.000-05:002012-06-15T22:46:40.404-05:00Summer!<div style="text-align: left;">
SUMMER IS HERE!!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizhxIuuvJs7YXtADrygHRaHyeP5bTpFJqYhxeu9B8GBOPaMY4ce7C3b1F9Z2XMUdqz4ZoHImwhancIKVVxQO8Tzy_f34r3DZAFxSprUJOm0gmtnZIgEwfe07eD3wGcL8h4CQjezZNwuug/s640/Photo+Jun+12%252C+7+20+54+PM.jpg" width="480" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well, technically, it isn't summer yet and this is actually kind of a sore subject with me. <i>(which is weird, because I brought it up...)</i> You see, my birthday is the first day of summer, and I refuse to acknowledge the solstice until I have a tiara on my head, cake in my belly and presents in my hands.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Or you know, until I'm surrounded by my friends and family who all love me for me. Blah, bored. Whatever! ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This year has just been so warm right off the bat. I mean, I was wearing flip flops and my light cardigans in February. I had hot pink on my toes and the windows down in my car in March. We had the occasional cold day, sure, but really I've been feeling the summer itch for about 4 months now. So what is 4 more days, really??!<br />
<br />
Besides I've already had like 4 snocones already. There is nothing more officially summer than that.</div>

On a gorgeous night here recently, we played catch in my in-laws backyard. The pictures of me were waaaaaaayyy less than flattering, thankyouverymuch, but the ones of my husband and his father warm my heart. He is very fortunate to have a relationship with his father on this Father's Day weekend.<br />

Yesterday was our friend's Alex and Greg's wedding. It was a beautiful day filled with love, happiness and laughter. She looked radiant in her dress and the pops of red were stunning. I was so happy to be a part of their day, especially surrounded by our friends! </div>

Weddings are honestly so much fun to me now that I've gotten married and know just how much intensive labor goes into the process. Seeing Alex shine on her day makes me just that much happier for her.<br />
<br />
I cannot even express how excited I am for the rest of this year! </div>

We moved out of our tiny 1 bed, 1 bath apartment in the city into my in-laws basement in the suburbs. Not bad really, we have the same amount of space as we had in the apartment, and most of our stuff is actually in storage, so it's not too terribly cramped down here.<br />
<br />
We are still waiting to hear back from the bank on if our offer on this amazing house we found got accepted. The sellers accepted our offer, but since it's a short sale we have to get the bank's approval as well. Our realtor is calling on the 8th for an update, but we probably won't hear back until late June or early July. I have never been a patient person, so this is EXCRUCIATING. My sister said it best when she asked, "Why is it called a short sale if it takes so long?!" Amen, sister. Amen.<br />
<br />
Luckily today went well. We had beeeeautiful weather for the move this morning and plenty of friends and family willing to help. Then we had a fun, relaxing afternoon with Lisa and Chris, Joey's cousin (and my friend) and her fiance. We got snocones (<i>cool things in huts!</i>) and the boys played xbox on Chris' enormous TV. <br />
<br />
We've spent tonight unpacking our clothes and getting our computers in order (<i>priorities!</i>). The TV is already turned on ESPN as well, but Joey is quick to point out that it's only in standard definition.<br />
<br />
This is going to be a long 2 months. ;)<br />

<br />
So far this weekend has been pretty good to us. <br />
<br />
Actually, Friday at work was TERRIBLE for me. Not anything in particular, just in the nature of my job, holidays are added stress to an already stressful job. Let's just say I worked HARD for my Monday off. Hence, the white peach sangria. Yum.... I could have had a LOT more where that came from, just not at $8 a pop.<br />
<br />
Today Joey and I, with the help of our friend Roadie, moved all of the boxes we had packed last week into our storage unit. Moving when it's 94 degrees outside is the worst form of torture, so I really am thankful that the boys did all the heavy lifting. While I was moving boxes in the house for them to take to the truck, I came across a box full of Joey's old toys. As I was rummaging through them, I couldn't help but notice how grotesque boys toys are. I mean, me and my sister grew up with Barbies and dollhouses... and sure I had some trolls too, but they had jewels for belly buttons and bright purple hair... not camo pants and missing teeth! Then out of nowhere I found this Snow White figurine that TOTALLY didn't go with the rest of the toys. She was my fave.<br />
<br />
We also stopped by Target tonight, which is essentially my crack. Who needs hard drugs when you can have super trendy home decor and reasonably priced dresses?! I picked up my new cell phone case (obsessed over here!!) as well as a pair of capris, a skirt, some tank tops and the dress above. I am going to wear it to our friend's wedding in 2 weeks. It's hard to tell there, but it's a pretty pattern of purples, oranges and pinks. I love it... and it's perfect for work too.<br />
<br />
The last picture up there is just of some boxes we found near the dumpster... SCORE FREE BOXES! And my iMac box... this was not found near the dumpster. ha. We have a long week ahead of us with work and packing and more packing and cleaning. Bah. It would be a lot more fun if we were moving into our brand new house, not into my in-laws guest room. Oh well! The time will come.... hopefully sooner than later!Kerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08390373464541174956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6723465946994335526.post-48471378275188352032012-05-25T21:21:00.000-05:002012-05-25T21:21:52.076-05:00Beach Cupcakes<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
Wow, it's been a long time since I've blogged. I'm sorry. As my way of
apologizing, here are fun pictures of some beach cupcakes me and my
sisters made! My sister-in-law is an HR Manager and really, really,
REALLY loves her job. I wasn't even being sarcastic<i> (surprising, I know)</i> - she actually does!! <br />
<br />
She wanted to make these cupcakes to take for a birthday celebration and my sister and I offered our services. It was a fun night filled with warding off small children from the chocolate cupcakes, the intense smell of Extra Bubble Gum and finding graham cracker crumbs EVERYWHERE including down my shirt. How did that even happen?<br />
<br />
They were really simple to make, just a little time consuming because she made like 50. \<br />
Crazy.<br />
<br />
You'll just need:<br />
- Cupcakes of your own choosing <i>(obviously the white cake makes a more believable oceanscape but chocolate tastes better in my opinion)</i><br />
- Vanilla frosting, one batch tinted pale yellow and one batch tinted pale blue<br />
- Blue sprinkles<br />
- Graham cracker crumbs<br />
- Gumballs <i>(or any round candy.. gobstobbers could work too I suppose!)</i><br />
- Sticks of bubble gum<br />
- Tiny cocktail umbrellas<br />
<br />

<br />
All you gotta do is pipe half of the top of the cupcake with blue frosting for the ocean and the other half with the yellow for the beach. Then sprinkle the blue sprinkles over the blue frosting and the graham crackers over the yellow.<br />
<br />
Voila! Your beach and your ocean. ADORABLE!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So many cupcakes.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then, just mold a piece of gum into the beach chair position. We found it helped to hold the gum in our hands to make it warmer and thusly more pliable. Then take some frosting and secure it to the cupcake. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Plop a gumball into the beach, or if you're like my sister, throw some into the ocean.. ha!</div>
</div>

<br />
Finally, stick your umbrella in the sand for some much needed shade, and you've got your super adorable beach cupcakes right in time for summer!!<br />
